Let there be light.
Friday evening, May 29, 2009, at 10:30pm, Donet turned up its first company-owned fiber strands and put them into production.
The fiber passes through several streets in Downtown Dayton, and is used to connect our two data centers. The new connection is a redundant 2 Gbps EtherChannel connection that links our 1st Street core switches to both of the switch cluster members at the 2nd Street data center. Each of Donet’s three core switches are now connected together in a ring with 2 Gbps links between everything. We have 136 extra strands of fiber left over for additional capacity and other projects.
This is a huge milestone for Donet, allowing us to deliver incredibly high-speed access between our two data centers as well as points along the way. Let there be light!
