Configure Your Favorite Mail Client
Configuring your favorite mail client to use your @donet.com email address is easy, regardless of the mail program you are comfortable using. The instructions for setting up an iPhone detail what are essentially the same settings for any email client. Lets start here with the general settings that any client will expect, and then drill into some specific situations.
If you are starting your mail client for the first time, chances are you will be automatically launched into an account wizard. If this is the case, enter the following information as prompted:
Example:
Protocol (Account type): POP3 or IMAP
Email address: donet@donet.com
Username: donet (*Note the username does not contain @donet.com)
Password: XXXXXXXXXXXX
Incoming mail server: pop3.donet.com
Outgoing mail server: smtp.donet.com
If you are adding additional accounts or attempting to make existing account changes, here are the common paths to your account settings:
Mac Mail: Mail > Preferences
Outlook Express: Tools > Accounts
Outlook 2007: Tools > E-Mail Accounts > View or change existing email accounts
Thunderbird: Edit > Account Settings
If you do not use Donet to connect to the Internet, chances are you will have to modify the default settings the wizard provided you with. Click on the name of your program above to jump to screenshots of your client.
Mac Mail:
Open the account settings, and click “Server Settings”. If you have more than one account you will need to first select your @donet.com account from the left panel.

When the setting box opens, select ‘Password’ as your authentication type. Then enter your username in the appropriate field. A handful of ISPs are beginning to block port 25 by default, so you may continue to have sending problems. To avoid this issue, change your outgoing port number as shown.

Your Mac Mail client is now configured with optimal account settings.
Outlook Express:
Open the account settings and select the ‘Servers’ tab. Check the option at the bottom to indicate ‘My server requires authentication’.

A handful of ISPs are beginning to block port 25 by default, so you may continue to have sending problems. To avoid this issue, change your outgoing port number by clicking the ‘Advanced’ tab.

After saving your settings, Outlook Express is now configured with optimal account settings.
Outlook 2007:
Open the account and click the ‘More Settings’ button.

Click the tab that says ‘Outgoing Server’ and select the option ‘My outgoing server requires authentication’.

A handful of ISPs are beginning to block port 25 by default, so you may continue to have sending problems. To avoid this issue, change your outgoing port number by clicking the ‘Advanced’ tab.

After saving your settings, Outlook 2007 is now configured with optimal account settings.
Thunderbird:
Open your account settings and click ‘Outgoing Server (SMTP)’ on the left panel.

Select the Donet outgoing server and click ‘Edit’. Here you will enable outgoing mail authentication, enter your username, and change the outgoing port number.

Press ‘Ok’ to save the changes, and Thunderbird is now configured with optimal account settings. When attempting to send a message, you will be prompted for your password with an option to save the password.

Obviously we can not anticipate every possible mail client, but the options and proper configuration will always be relatively similar. If you run in to a situation where the client does not provide you the option to change the port number, as I have seen in releases of the Evolution mail client, just use the following as your outgoing server; it accomplishes the same thing:
